Call for abstracts
You are invited to contribute abstract(s) for either an Oral Paper Presentation or a Poster Presentation. Abstract(s) must be emailed, as an attachment, to the Symposium Secretariat no later than May 10, 2008. The abstracts will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee to determine their suitability for the symposium. All accepted abstracts (both for oral and poster presentations) will be printed in the BOOKLET of PROGRAM and ABSTRACTS, which will be distributed to the participants upon registration.
The text of abstract should be limited to 200-300 words written in English and typed in Microsoft Word. The title of paper should be written with bold capitals in Times New Roman at size 12. Use single space throughout the abstract. The following information should be included in the abstract:
Title of presentation;
Full name(s) of author(s) - with the presenting author underlined;
Institutional affiliation or organisation;
Complete mailing address with telephone, fax, and email;
Text of abstract
Abstract Submission Guidelines
Abstracts of 200-300 words should be written in English. Alternatively, abstracts can be typed in Microsoft Word and emailed, as an attachment, to the Symposium Secretariat, by April 30, 2008.
If emailing, please include the following:
Title of presentation;
Author(s) full name(s) - with the presenting author underlined;
Institutional affiliation or organisation;
Complete mailing address with telephone, fax, and email;
Specify Paper or Poster.
Review Process
The abstracts will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee to determine their suitability for the symposium. The accepted abstracts of oral and poster presentations will be published in the Symposium Program and Book of Abstracts.
Guidelines for Manuscript Submission
All manuscripts must be written in Standard English according to the ISHS instructions that can be found on www.ishs.org/wri/pap1.htm. Manuscripts should be as concise as possible. Please note that the length of a full paper including the relevant tables and figures for oral/poster presentations should be within 4¡«6 pages and for invited/keynote lectures no more than 8 pages. An average page of text will contain about 800 words
Full papers should be submitted as an email attachment, and must reach the Symposium Secretariat by August 10, 2008. All submitted papers will be reviewed by at least two referees prior to acceptance for publication in Acta Horticulturae. Manuscript reviewers will delete unnecessary information and have the right to reject publication if manuscripts are below acceptable language or scientific standards.
The criteria for acceptance of articles for Acta Horticulturae
English language is understandable.
Format fits ISHS guidelines.
Paper represents a contribution to horticulture. It is either original, confirmatory or a synthesis of information related to the theme of the Acta Horticulturae.
Information of data is correct.
Data should be statistically analyzed where appropriate.
Literature cited should be appropriate.
Only full manuscripts of reviews or contributed papers will be considered for publication. Manuscript(s) should include: title (without abbreviations), author(s), name and address of institute, abstract (200-300 words), keywords (at least 5-7), text, acknowledgement, references, tables and figures. The text of papers reporting results of experiments normally include at least three sections: introduction; materials and methods; results and discussion. Other types of papers may have different formats. The authors of an Acta Horticulturae article are required to obtain permission if copyrighted material is used.
Use size 12 Time New Romans, bold capital letters for paper title and normal letters for subtitles (underlined and numbered) and text. Use single space throughout the paper. Latin names should be in italics (do not underline). Tables and figures are cited in the text but placed behind the Reference. References have the following layout: For journals ¨C author(s), year, title, journal, volume number, (issue number): page-page; For books ¨C author or editor, year, title, publisher, address, and pages; For chapter in book ¨Cauthor of chapter, chapter title and pages,(In:) book editor, title, publisher, address. Contributors are urged to consult the newest volume of Acta Horticulturae and follow strictly its style and settings when preparing your manuscripts.
Two copies of final manuscript with a floppy disk or CD containing only the file(s) of your manuscript(s) in Word format, should be submitted at the registration desk during the symposium to assure the inclusion in the Proceedings (Acta Horticulturae). Typed papers without electronic discs are unacceptable.
Oral & Poster Presentations
The oral presentations are limited to 15 minutes including 3 minutes of discussion for common contributed papers and 30 minutes including 5 minutes for keynote/invited papers. Speakers should rehearse the presentation thoroughly and stay within allotted time.
Poster presentations will be displayed continuously during the symposium. There will be an official poster session during the symposium at that time the participating author(s) are requested to be present in order to answer questions. The poster dimension is maximum 90 cm wide x 120 cm high. The text should be readable from a distance of 1-2 meters. The poster title should be 3 cm high. Author(s) name(s), institution and address(es) may be somewhat smaller. The text and illustrations should be between 6 and 12 mm. Please underline the name of the presenting author and include their email address.
